★多少のメンバーの異同はありながら合計5枚のアルバムを録音。そのほとんどが現在では入手困難なものとなっている。本作は、そのすべてのLPを年代順に収録。ビリー・エクスタイン、ディジー・ガレスピー、デューク・エリントンなどのビッグバンドのメンバーとして活躍したチャーリー・ラウス。特筆すべきはセロニアス・モンク・カルテットのメンバーとして10年以上活躍したこと。最初の、そしておそらく最高のジャズフレンチホルン奏者の一人であるジュリアス・ワトキンスは、ジョン・コルトレーン、フレディ・ハバード、チャールズ・ミンガス、マイルス・デイビス、ギル・エヴァンス、フィル・ウッズ、クラーク・テリー、、クインシー・ジョーンズ、ジョニー・グリフィン、ランディ・ウェストン、ジャズ・コンポーザーズ・オーケストラなど、数多くの偉大なミュージシャンと共演をしている。
★ラウスとワトキンスの2人がフロントラインに立っているのは、Jazz Modes以外ではオスカー・ペティフォードの『Oscar Rides Again』だけで、大変貴重。
★本作はボーナスとして、さらに10インチLPとして発行された3枚のアルバムを収録している。
